I am so, so sorry...

Princess of the Vikings Barbie.

Inspired by the legendary Nordic seafarers, Princess of the Vikings™ Barbie® doll is independent and powerful. She wears a flowing gown, worn with a golden mesh overskirt and breastplate. Inspired by the battles of the legendary Vikings, her trusty sword hangs from a golden cord that wraps at her waist. Her strawberry blond braids are topped with a bold golden helmet, complete with "wing" ornamentation.

GLaaaah.

Barbie's got a really lame sword.

And also: I felt that the Water Katchina Barbie (or whatever it was) was worse. Or at least just as bad, if in a different way. Yecht.

I really want to know how people think that any of this is a good idea. :P

Well, actually we thought it was "cute, and not bad considering it's a Barbie," and several of us bought 'em, particularly for girls who like Cute Things.

DLP's granddaughter got one of those, and a Greek Princess Barbie because Mr. DLP does Hellenic Reconstruction stuff. Then again... she's eight or some such.

Better than the "Greek Goddess" one. Supposed to be Athena, but looks more like Aphrodite as portrayed on Hercules: The Legendary Journeys.

All I can say is *snerrrrrk!*.

But then that's what I say to most Embrace Someone's Heritage Barbies.

Well. I'm not a friend of yours (came by to read Hellblazer: Hogwarts, which is pure brilliance. You rock.), but I am Asatru. And I find it kind of funny. I mean, it's Barbie. You can't really hope for historical correctness. And vikings dressed in frilly lace is always funny.

Personally my favorite all time Barbie has to be "George Washington Barbie" Where the "delightful" blond is dressed up as the First Prez of the USA.
