The only proof I have that this stuff is fermenting at all is the thin layer of darkish fluid that sits atop it after several hours. Very little in the way of bubbling going on, very little that looks like it's risen... I'm not happy. I'm going to give the starter another two hours or so, and if it hasn't given me more proof of rising by then I'm going to assume Alaska Jack's little packet contained dead sourdough starter and make a loaf of conventional bread. And then I'm going to find a company that sells sourdough starter over the net and buy one that I can rely on.
