Outside it's 89 degrees F. predictions for today go up to 94 F. I'm working from home this morning (the office closes early as lead-in to the July 4th weekend). Got the blinds down in the kitchen, the thermal blocker curtains from Target closed on one living room window and half closed on another (that one has blinds down as well as curtains), and regular light-blocking but not-particularly-thermal curtains closed on the third. I'd have that window using thermal blocker curtains too, but the cat sits in that window to watch things in the trees nearby, and I don't want the heat being trapped between the glass and the curtain while she's in there. The room I'm working in has floor-to-ceiling windows, but I have noise-blocking thermal curtains on both of them, closed almost entirely; one curtain is open just enough to let a wee bit of light in so I'm not operating solely on the light from my computer screens. Thermal curtains closed in the bedroom except around the window AC unit.

There's an AC in the kitchen set to econo mode; target temperature is 72 F. It switches on maybe once every 10-15 minutes or so and runs for about a minute.

I'm keeping it darkened in here for as long as I possibly can. It's actually a livable temperature in here and neither I nor the cat are suffering as a result of the light-blocking measures. no reason to add to the draw on the power grid.
