Mar. 8th, 2021 08:54 amOne of my niblings is having a birthday soon. I asked my sister if there were any specific requests.
Turns out someone wants to learn to play the guitar and also to learn to make their own clothes.
Also, it turns out Joann currently has the Singer 1304 Start, which has the front-loading pain-in-the-ass bobbin type but which is otherwise highly recommended as a beginner sewing machine, for something like half the price of other sellers, and also free shipping.
Kid's getting that and a gift certificate to Joann to pick out fabric and/or notions, also a copy of Shea Henderson's School of Sewing and Alison Smith's Sew Your Own Wardrobe, both via bookshop.org to support The Litbar, the only independent bookstore in the Bronx.
(My sister had indicated something to the effect of 'mom is getting the guitar starter kit, maybe some sewing stuff, or maybe you could talk to mom and get the guitar stuff and she could do sewing?'. Mom has way more sewing experience than I do, she was making T-shirts and reversible pants when I was still figuring out how to grow my permanent teeth, but I am extremely fond of supporting self-sufficiency even if it's only the very beginnings of doing so.)
