So this week's entry on Badass of the Week was "a hardcore radical anti-institutional 15th century skeptic who hated the establishment, challenged all manner of authority without fear or hesitation, and unflinchingly forced the people of the land to question everything they knew about Buddhism, the monastic system, Enlightenment, the priesthood, religion, nature, and the government." His name was Drukpa Kunley, and- to put it bluntly- he was the kind of hardcore radical anti-institutional type whose means of forcing people to question everything they knew more often than not involved getting massively drunk and having massive amounts of sex. I mean, while he was also known for calling hypocrites out in front of crowds of witnesses without batting an eye, we're talking about a saint whose standard greeting upon arriving in any given town was "I have come without prejudice to help you. Where can I find the best liquor and the most beautiful women?". To this day, in his honor, Bhutanese people seeking spiritual assistance will routinely paint large, detailed, severely NSFW images of his "Flaming Thunderbolt of Wisdom" on their houses.

I mention this because ever since I read the article about him, I keep thinking of the Justice League Unlimited episode I saw a while back that focused on Deadman, and how the goddess of the religion of Nanda Parbat was responsible for Boston Brand's current state. And picturing an AU where somebody who was trying to find Nanda Parbat and/or commune with Rama Kushna got lost and wandered into the area of the Chimi Lhakhang monastery and made contact with the spirit of Drukpa Kunley instead....
