Dec. 14th, 2015 08:29 amDidn't get to fly this weekend. Trying to recover from this stupid cold, which is still ongoing. People get kind of upset if you have a massive coughing fit at the controls of a flying machine, you know. Spent most of the weekend trying to relax at home. About all I accomplished was making a batch of jerky, which has turned out fairly well. This batch was made from eye round with as much fat carved off as possible. The roast was 2.5 pounds before I cut off the fat; not sure how much I lost but I don't think it was too much. The spice mixture was 2 tbsp kosher salt, 5 teaspoons light brown sugar, 2ish tablespoons smoked paprika, a teaspoon of ancho chile powder, somewhat less than a teaspoon chipotle chile powder, and a teaspoon of coriander. I use coriander in my jerky recipes a lot partly 'cos it was in the original DIY Cookbook recipe for jerky and partly 'cos one of the people in my office who likes my jerky the most is from South Africa. Biltong is the South African variation on the theme of dried ruminant meat, and it uses vinegar, salt, and coriander along with whatever else a given batch may have in it. He's never been very fond of most American jerky, although this is at least partly because he keeps running into things like Slim Jims (HSSSS!), but he's complimented me multiple times on the jerky I make. So. Coriander stays.
Also have been playing Fallout 4. Found the USS Constitution last night. It's sitting on top of a former bank. It has rocket engines attached. I cannot help but wonder if an ancient CIT prank was involved (since they have CIT instead of MIT).
Oh, and the Revere Beach T station is infested with raiders, but the wrecks of train cars in the T station indicate that the Blue Line had really nice trains before the War, so there's.... not really a big surprise there.
