The Capital Wasteland diet is extremely meat-intensive. Aside from the scrub and bushes we see in the desert, we don't see a whole lot of vegetables in the Wasteland diet. People in Rivet City have access to hydroponically grown vegetables and people in Oasis have whatever plants grow there. Fruit and veg otherwise come from two hundred year old scavenged products, and mutfruit (crunchy or otherwise).
Never mind the anti-rad properties of punga fruit. The single greatest contribution the folk of the Point Lookout area can make to the Capital Wasteland diet is fiber. We're looking at a good two hundred years without appreciable roughage in the diet here... no wonder everyone's so grumpy.
