Writer's Block: Oodles of noodles

Mom called it 'aglio e olio', but considering that it's 'tomato paste and garlic and oil and a few other things' rather than just plain ol' garlic and oil, the name may be inaccurate. It's better done as pasta e ceci or pasta e lenticchie, if you ask me, but the root dish is just pasta and that specific sauce. Coming a very close second is cacio e pepe, which is basically spaghetti, Romano cheese, black pepper, and a couple spoonfuls of heavy cream and olive oil each.

... a friend of mine who stayed at my apartment for some time a while back asked me one day if I didn't ever get tired of pasta. I distinctly remember giving a blank look and saying, "Tired of food?" in reply.

And we're back to the stairs.

Today was day two of the annual stair-climbing season for me. Did from floor 25 to the rooftop door on 45 in the time it takes to play the Halo theme (Mjolnir mix) plus up through the word 'defeat' in the song 'I'll Make A Man Out Of You' from Mulan.

I need to get a stopwatch app.

ETA: I checked iTunes. 4:11 + 20 seconds. So, twenty floors in four minutes thirty-one seconds. It's a start.

Yesterday police in Oakland, California, attacked thousands of largely peaceful protesters -- firing tear gas, flash grenades and rubber bullets into crowds that included children, the elderly and people with disabilities.

Police have cracked down on other Occupy encampments across the country, evicting and arresting hundreds of nonviolent protesters in Chicago, Atlanta and Albuquerque. Occupiers in Baltimore, San Francisco, and other cities are also being threatened with eviction and arrest.

When a peaceful movement for social and economic justice is met with violence and repression, people of faith have a moral obligation to speak up.

I just signed a petition calling for an end to attacks and arrests on Occupy protests -- will you join me?
