Aug. 30th, 2006 06:05 pmAs I was getting ready to leave work today, I stopped at the end of the main trading desk and looked up at the telly playing CNBC. They were showing some kind of space capsulish footage. I couldn't hear the sound just at that moment, and thought perhaps it was a commercial- but no. No, when the desk quieted down a bit, it turned out to be something about the Orion manned space vehicle. Huzzah, I thought.
Cut to footage of space shuttle launch. What, in the face of Ernesto? I thought.
Voice-over from announcer: "And so Discovery takes off, carrying our hopes for the Moon, Mars, and the future of space exploration with it." Ah, I thought.
And then, as they continued to show the liftoff process, they played the music.
This is Ground Control to Major Tom - you've really made the grade
And the papers want to know whose shirts you wear....
.... DUDE. NO. That's about the worst mismatch between intention and song since "Born in the USA" got played at a Republican convention.
