FG: This is great stuff. I don't understand why it didn't catch on in the States sooner.
ME: We are talking about a country that canceled Star Trek after three seasons and replaced it with Hee Haw.
FG: Yeah, but still- British television's caught on here before. Fawlty Towers was really funny. And Benny Hill.
ME: Well-
FG: I haven't seen those things you told me about yet, the big- the enemy things. What did they look like?
ME: Lemme use your computer. *goes to images.google.com* *types in 'Dalek'* *selects second image 'cos first one has a nekkid or seminekkid woman being way too attentive to the Dalek*
FG: . . . that's what everyone on the show's afraid of? A robot garbage can?
ME: That's the armour. The real Dalek's a sort of greenish blobby thing inside.
FG: So Independence Day ripped these guys off?
ME: For a whole generation of Brits, that's the equivalent of the flying monkeys.
FG: Wow.
