So yesterday was St. Patrick's Day. I avoided the celebrations. About all the holiday means to me is 'time to dig out the Green Lantern t-shirt' and since I still have to do the laundry this week, I couldn't even be arsed to do that. I wore my only green jacket to work, but it's Chinese in design, so I got more compliments on cut than comments on colour. I did find myself thinking that if I used emerald fabric instead of the close-to-lime colour it had, and if I used silk or satin instead of linen, and if I stylized it just a bit or added a few extra cultural elements, I could probably put a nice lantern on the front where a dragon symbol would be on a fancier jacket and turn it into a uniform element…

Anyway, after work I went to visit [livejournal.com profile] ladymondegreen, [livejournal.com profile] akawil, and [livejournal.com profile] agrumer. We watched a bunch of my Real Ghostbusters DVD- mostly the JMS episodes, since one can only watch so much at one go. There are still other episodes left to go. Should be fun. I myself have to rewatch the movie before I write any further WYGO?, because otherwise I'll get Egon's dialogue wrong. Winston and Peter aren't hard to do in either movie or cartoon format, and in the fanfic I use Bill Murray's voice but the cartoon's image, but Egon and Ray… well, there are differences, most of them relating to the fact that neither of them is really as smart in the cartoon as they are in the movie. It affects the word choices involved. Not to mention that Cartoon!Egon has a number of visual mannerisms, including the way he fiddles with his glasses, that aren't found in the movie and probably shouldn’t creep into the fic since I'm using Movie!Egon there.

In the process of watching the cartoon I was reminded of a number of crossover ideas I had when I was watching stuff with [livejournal.com profile] mephron last week. I have decided that I get enough of these things, specialized and almost always with a very sensible explanation of how to bring them about, that they deserve their own name: mulebunnies. They're powerful, useful, last a long time and are very stubborn, but with the exception of Vimes of Numenor, so far they haven't got to the point of spawning any ideas for offspring. That plus I like the mental image of a dark grey rabbit with unusually long ears and a vile temper.

(It should be noted that I have been prone to crossover ideas in one form or another since I was educated enough to know what hybridization was- and I received my first copy of Dr. William T. Innes' book on tropical aquarium fish when I was about seven years old. Somewhere in my past is an essay I wrote for… I think sixth grade, maybe… wherein I had to write a newspaper article about my future self's accomplishments. I remember very distinctly that I wrote in an award I received from the tropical fish industry for creating the Sailfin Golly, a successful inter-genus cross between Poecilia reticulata, the scientific name for the guppy, and the then-current Mollienisia sphenops*, the sailfin molly. No one saw this as a threat to the fabric of spacetime or anything, so you should really blame them for allowing me to become what I am. Honest.)

*M. sphenops has, I've been told, since been reclassified into genus Poecilia. Still, the idea stands.
