Woke up this morning from a dream that I had already awakened and was talking to my mother about the dream I'd just had. As is not entirely uncommon when I dream that I have been dreaming, the original dream (in this case, about Yoda reprimanding Anakin Skywalker for trying too much with the Force too soon) was, in the context of the dream, making its second or third appearance. Upon waking up, however, I knew that I had never dreamed any of those dreams before.

Try saying that three times fast.

Brain is currently too crowded for its own good. I've got Sophronia Toops the Muggle Studies teacher trying not to mess with John Constantine's hair; I've got two Canadian boys staring in horror at a model rocket gone 'splodey to a degree that would make small fuel-air bombs cry; I've got no fewer than three members of the Numenorean Vimes clan holding up bits of paper with their stories on 'em; I've got at least two different Mounties offering their own stuff for the writing (although they, thank God, are polite abouut it rather than banging on the insides of my eyeballs); AND I've got the two remaining Iron Author challenges to do.

gneh.

How I know I will never be hardcore in a general sense (I've already been told by my local comic store owner that I'm a hardcore gamer, to my surprise): my response to all of this is, "I need my friggin' Ovaltine."

She's 29 - a year younger than me. She's a single mother of two girls. She's from California.

She's a supply sergeant in the US Army. She's served in the Army for ten years. Right now she's in Camp Cooke, Iraq, where she's in charge of the cooks, the food, the water, and other related supplies. She's been there since January; her unit is supposed to go home come next January, operative word being 'supposed'. Some time ago, when I was first cleaning my room, I consulted Books for Soldiers and found her name and request. I sent her about two and a half years' worth of back issues of Cooks Illustrated magazine- all recipes and product tests, no ads.

Today, I got a thank-you card from her... and a two-page letter.

Damn. I mean, damn.

I loves me some forced perspective, yes I do. Or is it foreshortening? It's been a while.
