Phoned [livejournal.com profile] cadhla last night to ask if I was dead and receiving all my merit / good karma at once. I'm doing computer work I'm good at, at a chapter that needs lots of help, within walking distance of more restaurants (of ethnicities whose foods I like) than I have FINGERS... and I'm also within walking distance of a street with no less than three used bookstores on a single block, two of which are next door to each other. I could stand in the doorway of one, spit real hard, and hit the other if I wanted to (which I don't).

[livejournal.com profile] cadhla says that since they haven't offered me a job here, I'm not dead; God is just teasing me. Ah well, I shall do my work and enjoy my time not at work while it lasts. They need me. I can help. That's the important thing.

That, and the fact that [livejournal.com profile] utsuri had better be working on her NaNoWriMo book, because I need to find a scanner today. I finished the picture... sadly it involves civilian clothes rather than the uniform, as I have no uniform pictures on hand for detail, but Oh Well.

I have indicated before that one of the reasons I fear scanning my art into the computer involves the Suck Fairy. She waits until I've finished drawing something, and then once I have closed the drawing pad, she crawls into the pages. She removes all the good stuff from my work and replaces it with Suck, and then flies away giggling.

I do not think the Suck Fairy has visited me since last night, but I may feel differently tomorrow. For now, judge for yourself.

The original of this picture was a watch ad in an in-flight magazine. I have taken a few liberties, but only a very few; I did not attempt to draw beard stubble, nor did I attempt to indicate where the lapels of the suit fall. (Yes, suit; as I said in my prior post I did not have a uniform reference and have been stuck with civilian clothes as a consequence. I do have a photograph of a Mountie in full uniform, but it's at home.) I especially did not try to colour it in (although I may at some point if I get coloured pencils). The big honking version of the drawing is 70k; the more reasonably sized version is 13k. God loves grayscale JPEGS.

I like to think that I have not drawn the Sergeant with terribly deformed hands, the way I often do. I hate drawing hands; they're complicated. I'm not HAPPY with the hands, but they're not as bad as they could be... oh, and the weird mark on his left hand? According to the radio program, his legendary lead dog King bit him very hard once, as a puppy. It left a scar. That was the only time King ever bit him.

Now I have to eat. And deal with work. Email me if you have comments or whatever.
