Huzzah for blood drives.
Jun. 15th, 2003 11:13 amI attended BuffyCon yesterday and Friday. Friday was mostly to see
cadhla and
batyatoon and
sdelmonte and a bunch of other people; Saturday, however, was because of the blood drive. I gave my pint early (a big relief, believe me, as I was worried that my multivitamins might not have been enough to make up for monthly iron loss) and spent several hours thereafter answering questions about blood donation with 'here, read these, then sign up on that paper and go to the bloodmobile'. Not the most exciting way to spend a con, but it meant I could get some knitting done and talk to people who were waiting for other things to happen. I gave up on my Slytherin Hogwarts scarf - the acrylic yarn was too stiff for me to want to do an entire scarf out of it - and turned it into a hat instead. (Pictures later.) I also knitted a wire necklace with beads for
cadhla, which was very amusing. (I threaded it over her hand when she was asleep. She swatted at it and it fell to her elbow. She kept swatting her hand. Eventually she managed to roll herself off the lobby couch doing this, at which point she woke up.) And I got several inches done on the front side of a shirt I've been working on.
I imagine the con might have been more compelling if I had ever actually been a Buffy fan. I only ever saw one episode all the way through, the one with the ambassador from Syphilis. I wasn't there for the Buffyfoo; I was there for the people I knew, and for the Red Cross. When the Red Cross stuff was over I followed people around. I admit, there were a few points when I felt a bit like a lost puppy, but my friends really were great and even if I can't sing properly, I can appreciate those who do.
