I'm awake.
Jun. 30th, 2002 09:05 amIt's 9 AM. We're here at the job, although it's very quiet. Sundays are always pretty quiet on Red Cross jobs, but I'd forgotten how quiet they could be. Particularly during staff meetings. My division's Coordinator has the day off; he said Keith, the other DCO person on duty, was in charge. This surprised Keith, who had yesterday off and who is a Technician. I'm a Specialist. Basically, I outrank him, but I don't care that he's been left in charge because a) he's been on this job longer & knows the technical setup involved better as a result, and b) the person in charge has to go to the staff meeting. I hate staff meetings. He's at one now. I'm not. I see nothing to object to.
Last night I went straight from work to the Tattered Cover. I should not have spent $50, but I did. I almost spent more, but I mustered enough willpower not to. Got The Swashbuckler's Handbook from Mage: The Sorcerer's Crusade at half price, got a language-learning CD-ROM, got a book on how to write Chinese characters, got an issue of Primitive Archer (which is a BEAR to find in my area). I suspect I will go there several more times before I go home. I also suspect I will find a post office, as I packed more reading material than clothing for this trip already. That's by both weight AND volume. I mean, yeesh... if I go more than once or twice I'll NEVER be able to carry it all home.
For dinner I went to Wild Oats Community Market. Gods, I'd forgotten how cool that place was - we had one near my home, but it closed down a year or two ago. (There's a Whole Foods Market going up in its place sometime this year.) Dinner was from the salad bar, plus a small container of Turtle Mountain Soy Delicious Mocha Mint, but there's neither fridge nor freezer in my room at the hotel. I can't store anything that requires refrigeration. Can't get anything microwavable for lunch, either, 'cos I can't store it in my room and it's too far a drive to grab it on my lunch break... *sigh* Ah well. Tonight I may give into the voice in my head that's murmuring "cheese.... cheeeeeeeeese..." and get some cheese and bread instead of a full dinner. They have a wonderful selection there.
Other than that nothing going on at the moment. Hayman Fire mostly contained, but a few small fires keep erupting, and the Missionary Ridge fire is aiming for Durango, which could get ugly. Further bulletins as events warrant.
