cadhla recently posted a list on her page of 'you might be a child of the 80s if' pop-culture references and the like. I commented at one point that I could not sing the DuckTales theme song, but that I remembered the entire opening sequence of Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors. A few minutes later, out of morbid curiosity, I typed the cartoon's name into Google to see if I could find out whether my childhood belief that one of the characters was named Hurk was true. Right sound, wrong spelling... Then I ran across a picture from one of the episodes. It was unnerving. Coincidence, or is my brain storing stuff behind my back and laughing at me?
This one is a picture from an episode entitled
Herc Stormsailor, which I can only assume is the character's full name.
And
this is a FKO 2002 sketch of
Sky Master Wong...
It's the expression on their faces that really gets me. Bone-structure-wise, Herc looks like Bruce Campbell, but the rest... I mean, the hair's bad enough, but the
smile...
In honor of this, today's
pulp survival tip is a rerun. #108: If your face appears on a wall that's older than you are, find out why before taking any further action. This applies to portraits of your own ancestors as much as it does to random paintings or sculptures.
