Got frustrated with waiting for my family to do it today, so I went to the Wiz and had a chat with the Optimum Online people. One hole through my floor and the downstairs ceiling later, and I'm on a bright shiny new cable modem. Yay. It's not that it's fast - although it is, it's bloody fast, it's wonderful bloody fast. It's that it's not my dial-up modem. I've been using dial-up since 1200 baud was the best you could do. It's tied up phone lines. It's resulted in Bills of Extensive Horror when the phone company mistakenly billed us at toll rates for local calls. It's been okay, I even used it for large downloads, but... this isn't dial-up. I have my phone line back. No one can pick up the phone or log onto AOL midway through a scene and interrupt me. I have my phone line back.
I have cable.
And I am glad.
Today's pulp survival tip is #92. Bring your own toilet paper, especially if you are going into a jungle setting. Your books will be too valuable to pull apart and you don't want to take chances on local leaves.
