After Bulletproof Monk, I sat down with my mp3 collection and pulled out a bunch of songs that simply seemed to go with the movie. I also put some serious thought into character clichés, story clichés, and how one might go about making them more useful. The mp3s got burned to a CD Monday night, but didn't quite seem to work; last night I revised the list a bit and got it into better order. I also spent a chunk more time considering the clichés, and between that and the music, got some results. Unfortunately -or perhaps fortunately? - the results work best in a Feng Shui game, with a straight Mage setting or background coming a distant second. . .

I may have to sit down with some of the Feng Shui fans out there and see what data is available on any extra or alternate junctures. I'm still trying to decide whether this is background for stuff occurring now, or whether it would be feasible to declare another twentieth-century juncture: the Pulp Juncture, sometime in the late 1920s to mid 1930s. Those of you who complain that there aren't enough HK movies set in that time frame to really make it feasible, I humbly offer Fist of Legend (and, I presume, the original film which was remade into Fist of Legend - The Chinese Connection, starring Bruce Lee). 1937 Shanghai. Japanese occupation, revolutions brewing, all kinds of internal and external conflict busting out all over the place… add in the muck going on in Europe, with adversaries nasty enough to give even the Architects pause (although knowing them it'd be a pause to admire their methods), and if there isn't enough magic and mayhem in 1930's China you can always grab a couple of Europeans and throw them into the mix. I swear, it's golden.

Anyway, the Pulp Juncture is my current favourite for when to set the stuff I was thinking over last night, but I can deal with making it modern juncture with its roots in that time frame (or a little earlier). If anyone's interested in hearing about the Monastery of the Midnight Sun*, let me know.

*Did I mention that my vacation research got bundled up into my considerations, too? I just need to work out how the aurora borealis tie into dragon lines and feng shui sites.

Jess, I am always interested in what you come up with. And this sounds fascinating.
