Finished my test piece!

Woo! Finished my first piece of 'keep going until you've got the stitches in your fingers' knitting. It's kind of lame looking and you can see the exact point where I Got A Clue - it's where I suddenly realized 'purling' does not equal 'inserting the needle into the back of the loop from right to left and pulling the yarn over the top of the needle' and started doing textbook garter stitch - but I'm still proud of it. I'm sending it to Warm Up America!, which is the Craft Yarn Council of America's social service branch. They distribute afghans to various social service groups and charities, and while they normally prefer to give out full afghans, they happily take 7" x 9" sections and join them together with others to make full afghans to be distributed. Mine is a 7" x 9" block of Skyscraper Grey. It's at this link, which is around 56k - fair warning. I'm just happy I managed to get it close to right, and even happier that it has a good home to go to. Now I can start on the Harry Potter scarf! And on telling my brain that it's not allowed to talk me into buying a tiny bit of metallic yarn to provide a copper-coloured stripe between the green and grey sections.

I need to get started on my practice piece again, I want to make myself a Hufflepuff scarf, in spite of the fact that I like Ravenclaw or Slytherin colors better.

Well, hey, I keep testing out Hufflepuff myself (sometimes Ravenclaw), but when I was at the crafts shop the yarn in dark green and medium gray was more attractive than any of the blues, so Ravenclaw was out - and I'm not that fond of yellow and black, or red and gold. (Red and gold is more my sister's school colours anyway.)

Admittedly, I'm not fond of the Hufflepuff colors, either, but I sorta like them better than gold and burgundy. I should just make a Slytherin scarf and be done with it!
