I have learned this before, but today's lesson from the world of sewing is a review item, and an important one: big tables help when you are working with a lot of fabric.
My sister asked me to make some window valances for my niece. The calculator that they have at onlinefabricstore.net for drapery needs said I'd be wanting six yards of fabric for the length and width and fullness I'm hoping to manage. My kitchen table is a little IKEA kitchen table with room for four. Six yards is a bit more fabric than I could manage on that table so I had to do measuring and cutting on my rotary-cutter mat on the front room floor, and even then I had to make periodic shifts and adjustments because the mat is 24x36" but the fabric is 40" wide and, well, six yards long.
I have not cut the liner yet. The liner can wait. I have to exercise on what's left of my lunch hour.
(And find something suitably whitenoisey and soundblockey on mynoise.net for blocking out the downstairs neighbor, who is on her second day of being EXCEPTIONALLY SHOUTY OVER THE PHONE.)
