The raven was back this morning.

Heard a crow noise at first, which is nothing unusual- we get crows around here fairly often, usually more in the direction of East Boston, sometimes flying over from Snake Island. Then I heard something deeper and louder and lower than a caw, which I would not have originally said sounded like a croak but which definitely did not sound unmistakably crow-like. I moved over to the window in a hurry and caught sight of a black bird that looked significantly larger than I would have expected from a crow, with long, separated wing feathers that gave the impression of hands, fingers splaying forward. It was flying away and I couldn't get a good look at the tail, but when I sat back down and called up Merlin Bird ID on my phone, the sound it had made resembled the second recording under 'common raven' more than it did any of the crow noises.

So, raven, as far as I'm concerned.
