Feb. 24th, 2020 08:19 amWatched the documentary I Know That Voice the other night. It's a 2013 film about voice acting. John DiMaggio produced it; he's the voice of Bender on Futurama, King Z0g on Disenchanted, Jake the Dog on Adventure Time, and I think Marcus Fenix in Gears of War? At least he's Fenix in the most recent Gears game, dunno about earlier ones... anyway, it's an interesting look at voice acting, the people involved, its history, etc. They've got bits from people as far back as the actresses who voiced Judy Jetson and Rocket J. Squirrel, and people who're doing video game and CGI animation now. (And a bit towards the end with Kevin "Batman" Conroy in it which I rather liked.)
There was one part involving one of the voice actors from The Clone Wars series, in the part of the documentary that talked about how actors handle legacy characters, that caught my ear. The guy said, "Lucas told me, Sir Alec Guinness will never be Obi-Wan Kenobi again. Ewan McGregor will never be Obi-Wan Kenobi again. As of right now, you are Obi-Wan Kenobi."
I know it's just a reference to acting and parts being passed down to new actors the way they've been for as long as there have been parts and acting, but when you're dealing with Jedi, a line like that just has a ring to it.
