Had another flight lesson today. This one had hover practice, then a flight from North Andover to Newburyport and back so I could practice turning, descents/climbs, determining wind direction based on local wind turbines and windsocks, etc. At one point we were something like 1750 feet up- I think, anyway, it may have been a bit less- and I asked how far we could see from where we were.

Turned out the things on the horizon to the west were the White Mountains in New Hampshire and the big thing in the far distance to the right was Mount Katahdin in Maine. Mt. Washington was visible, too, if you looked in the right direction. So that was pretty cool.

The instructor has told me not to apologize for anything I do in training because everyone makes mistakes and that is part of learning. I am good with this. I am also amused by the fact that he has fewer issues with me saying "Shit! Shit!" than "Sorry! Sorry!".

Someone happened to tell me today that women apparently make better helicopter pilots than men - something about being better able to multi-task. You could never use me as an example, I multi-task for shit.

Heh. Right now most of what I'm doing right seems to be based on all the adjustments you have to make to ride a bicycle at any kind of speed on a shared road, and on my experience screwing around with Ouija boards. No lie, the scale of movements you have to make to keep things level or make careful turns is basically the same size of push or pull you'd need in order to move the planchette around to the letters and numbers you want without anyone else noticing.
