Woke up this morning, looked at phone; phone said it was 11 degrees F out. checked Weather Underground, which said yeah, the phone's right, and also it's -9F windchill.

We don't have as much snow up here as you guys in New York have, as far as I can tell, but I sure hope it's warmer for you. (And I'm so glad that I made a point of buying insulated curtains. I still need to get a set for the front part of the apartment, but at least the bedroom and living room aren't leaking nearly as much heat through the windows any more.)

That's a thing? I've been making due with old t-shirts stuffed against the bottom of the frame, which has been working about as well as one would expect. Clearly I have an act to get together.

Yeah, they're not the most powerful insulation in the world but they do a better job of keeping the room from leaking heat than regular curtains. They're lined and they come in lengths that're supposed to cover as much of the window as possible instead of just brushing the windowsill. Some of them are also marked 'room-darkening' so they keep out light in addition to keeping the heat in; I have those in my bedroom. The ones in the living room are just the insulated kind, though.

I also need to get some draft excluders for some of the doors. The front room in this apartment has an uninsulated closet on one side with more space between door and floor than is practical. I want to block that and the front door and maybe the side door (third floor of a three family house, there's two stairwells involved).

go team curtains!! I put the last of the ones up in my bedroom on Monday. Even just regular curtains made a huge difference! I know because suddenly the cats just wanted to sleep in my bed all day!

It was -20 windchill when I left for work. ;_; I love my thermal curtains. NEVER LEAVE ME, CURTAINS. Now if I can just get around to putting plastic sheets over the windows ...
