Is it just me, or has there been a surge in LJ spam since the DDOS? Mostly people posting "Great blog! Wonderful subject material! More plz!" or similar idiocy, sometimes with claims to being college students or similar, in posts that have nothing to do with anything?

It's just you. I was getting htis much comment spam before the attack. At leas the new ones are on different posts.

Sorry. Personally, I haven't seen anything new, except a sudden avalanche of spam posts in a few inactive communities that I subscribe to.

i've noticed an uptick, but it's been easy enough to keep on top of.

I actually noticed a massive uptick a week or two before the DDOS.

I thought that the uptick in spam comments was part of the DDoS -- leaving a lot of random comments takes up bandwidth, and if people actually respond to them, even more? Or something like that? However it works, I only know enough to know I don't know.
