I don't remember what Janice's tag skills were, but I know she had a pretty respectable Science score to begin with. I usually make a point of getting a character to 25 Science and Lockpick as soon as I can just so I don't embarrass myself the first time I have to open an Easy door or hack an Easy terminal. I'd picked up some Mentats along the way, so that helped too.
