Part of the problem isn't just that he's doing Major Story Arcs, it's that the creator has seen fit to apply his personal values to the strip and make the necessary retcons. Unfortunately, it's very hard to make a 'verse like GPF -- or its characters, up until the strip went serious -- conform to mainstream American evangelical Christian morals without dropping bits on the floor.
