On a completely non-heat-related note, I went back to the SCOTTeVest web site yesterday and ordered another pair of the hidden cargo pants, plus a pair of their shorts. The pants are for work; the shorts, well, I need nice shorts.

Turns out the pants are Teflon coated. So are the shorts.

...

I own Teflon coated trousers.

yah, I saw that ... but when it comes to shorts, it's near impossible for me to find anything that works well in women's anyways (at least in current fashion, because lord forbid we make women's shorts that fit people with hips) so I tend to end with guy shorts. At least guy shorts are made with looser comfy legs vs. the bizarre women's bermuda shorts straight leg thing that's happening everywhere.

Thanks for the warning though :)

Odd. I've got Hips O' Doom and have had little problem finding shorts this summer (but then I'm shopping exclusively in the 'full-figured' sections, as I've recently ballooned out to a size 16/18, and even there, yeah, some styles are a bit narrow in the hip area).

Well, basically ... the places that in previous years have been my saviour on finding shorts that fit have gone gung-ho into this 'bermuda short' style this year. Which ends up with either clinging to the lower thigh problems or huge back of the waist gaps (actually - the few I tried on had both). And the mall that's easiest for me to get to (as current job has the other half taking the car many of my days off) doesn't have much selection on plus sized stuff. The one store I went into traumetized me with these extra-flowy shorts ....

I dunno. Even the few good pairs of shorts I've got still tend to gap a little at the back of the waist. that's why drawstrings (without being flowy shorts) made these shorts sound even more tempting.
