So why are you looking at listings for trips to Alaska that put 'self-guided drive', 'Bering land bridge', and 'among the most isolated in North America' all in one sentence and going 'ooooh, fun!'? I thought you were smarter than that...

On a rather more accessible and still suitably Due Southish note, there's always the North-West Mounted Police Museum in Fort MacLeod, Alberta. Musical Ride exhibitions during the summer season on a regular basis, plus it's very close to the Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump and I really don't think you can find anything in the real world that's quite so close to Due South's specific flavour of Canadian Weird as a UNESCO World Heritage Site where they answer the phone by saying "Head-Smashed-In, may I help you?"

Hee - or the Motherhouse in Ottawa!

I got to go up to Vancouver, finally, a couple of Marches ago; I was absolutely tripping on recognising so many places, sometimes even by accident. I've got a substantial portion of the peninsula mapped already, and I was only there... erm, 36 hours?

Not real DueSouthy, but my most substantial Canadian experience so far.

Been to Ottawa. That's where I took the photo for this icon, although I was only there two days and only got to visit part of the city. Saw the Parliament buildings, though, and a lot of the statues around the city dedicated to various Canadian heroes like Terry Fox. Got to visit some really cool museums, too, including the Museum of Civilisation across the river in Hull. And, well, the icon photo was taken at a bit of a distance because

user, who hails from Ontario and knows of my fondness for all things Canadian, was taking special delight in my embarrassment as she tried to drag me over to see the Mountie up close. I remember telling her that I was not going to be another dumb American tourist and that the poor guy was just doing his job and let go of my elbow... snapped the pictures when she wasn't looking.

The only foreign country I've ever been to has been Canada. Toronto and environs several times, Vancouver Island once (the city, no, since all I did was pass through it), Ottawa once, also Montreal and Quebec City. Lovely place.

Oh, and Niagara Falls, where there was a shop that gave me the opportunity to come up with one thing I'm dead certain no one else on my friends list has done:

#12: I have worn a Mountie uniform jacket. Not one from a costume store, either. The real thing, just retired.

Scroll back a little in my LJ if you feel like bothering, I posted that 'Where have I been?' graphical meme not too long ago. :) My 'standard', if you want to call lack of funding that, is to only go to countries where I won't be linguistically helpless.

You've done somewhat better than me; a friend took me through Windsor and partway around the lake and such. Veddy veddy flat, glacier-ironed.
