The kaldanes can be accounted for by placing them in one of the Weird Little Countries encountered along the way. Dorothy did, after all, run into that country of living china figures when she was trying to make her way to Glinda's place in the first book. Maybe they can be like that country where people stand still but their furniture comes to them (am I remembering right? It's been a while, and there were thirteen books...). As regards the skeleton men of Jupiter, I haven't got as far as that book, so I really couldn't say.
