Arda, it seems, is like a Roach Motel. Spirits check in, but they don't check out (the various Ainur had to agree that they'd stay in Arda 'til its ending, and the Elves are bound to it until its end). Or perhaps it is like the Hotel California, in that one may check out any time one likes, but one may never leave. At least, not unless one is mortal and cacks it, hence the Gift of Iluvatar to Men.

... yes, this is relevant. This morning I asked myself how to go about justifying 'Vimes of Numenor' and was rewarded with a flash of Sir Samuel attempting to grab Manwe by the lapels as he bellowed, "What do you MEAN I can't leave? You're a bloody god! You brought me here in the first place! Now send me back!" "Ah- yes- about that- I'd forgotten the part where spirits who enter into Arda must see it through to its end-" "That's kidnapping, that is, and imprisonment under false pretences..."

Puts a bit of a new spin on the Ban of the Valar. "No sailing far enough west that you can't see the shores of your island. This is to keep the Three Houses from getting all weird about immortality, and the Fourth House from coming after Manwe with an axe."

New spin, indeed...

and the Fourth House from coming after Manwe with an axe.

Bwa! Why do I suddenly have an image of a certain Valar hiding behind a tree...?

It would certainly make interesting changes to the storyline of LoTR if there were a few Gondorians wandering around who didn't give a right twist for Gandalf, Sauron, the Elves or the Valar. For one thing, a Vimes in place would almost certainly have stomped down on some of Denethor's loopier ideas...

I know that I know you only in the most tangential of LJ manners, but I think I may love you.

I am trying and trying to find the Discworld/Simarillion crossover you had with Vimes being "brought in" as a copper. That was yours, I am very nearly sure of it, but I can't find it and I wanted to point my husband at it. Am I hallucinating? I wouldn't be entirely surprised, the way this week has been!

Thank you - you just made my day!

Camwyn, you're evil. Very, very evil. Marry me. :D

Frell! I need to get my ass in gear with Sideswipe. I've spoken to EKP and she should be posting her response in the rp soon.

- but impetuous proposals aren't my style. If anything, I move too slowly in relationships. An appreciation for things you can have fun doing together is a solid start, however, and judging by your wsriting and commentary I like many of the same things.

See, i'm far too serious for my own good. No joking, impetuous, 'Oh marry me!' just 'well, we like some of the same stuff, I'd give it a shot.' Of course, geographical reality is another matter entirely, what with the Moosecave being in New Jersey IIRC, while I'm a good half day's drive away from any point in that state.

Bloody Hell, CD, get yourself an LJ yourself. It's not that painful an experience.
