Got about a page's worth of Diary of a Mountie done today. Have sent it to [livejournal.com profile] batyatoon for fact checking. I think tomorrow I may have enough time to get some more done at work; I may actually have enough to put up as a REAL POST tomorrow. Huzzah!

Side note: listening to the Gene Pitney version of "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance" works awfully well as a kick-in-the-butt means of forcing inspiration. It works like this:

GENE: From the moment a girl becomes full grown, the very first thing she learns-
ME: . o O ( I don't really feel like writing just now, do I? )
GENE: When two men go out to face each other-
ME: . o O ( Um. Where are the police? Never mind the lawyer- can we at least have a marshal or something? )
GENE: Only one returns...
ME: Agh! All right, all right, I will write about the damn Mountie if only to get the !&(*&! Western out of my head!

New Diary entry up.

Gene Pitney hath his uses. So do the Royal Guardsmen ("TEN TWENTY THIRTY FORTY FIFTY OR MORE") and the Arrogant Worms (mostly The Last Saskatchewan Pirate; it suddenly occurred to me in the car this morning that piracy on the rivers of the Prairie Provinces might not have been such an uncommon thing during the Great Depression of an alternate world). Anyway, the point is that I got a new bit up and will be working on the next shortly.

Parade!

I'm going into New York City for the Greenwich Village Halloween Parade tomorrow. I'm not going to participate - I did that once and while it is a fantastic experience, being a part of the parade means you miss seeing an awful lot. I want to do both once, and then I can do either just as I please.

I will, however, be wearing at least a bit of costumery; I intend to wear the jersey I have come to think of as belonging to Chumley, the Littlest Mountie (it fits me like a long-sleeved shirt and it is meant to be worn to play HOCKEY in- where is the room for the armor?), my hockey helmet, and probably bring a hockey stick. I think I will most likely take the train into the city since Hoboken parking costs roughly as much for four hours as a round-trip train ticket, and I would rather not walk through Hoboken after ten PM on Halloween if I can help it. I will probably bring my rollerblade equipment, though. Skate from Penn Station to 22nd street or something, if I can manage. Afterwards - or possibly before - I plan to stop by my uncle's restaurant, which is in Chelsea. Should be fun.

Anyone wanna join me?
