Looking for furniture advice here. I'm trying to find a gaming/computer/office chair for a friend of mine. He's 6'4" and suffers from chronic back pain. Straight-backed IKEA dining chairs like the ones in their Jokkmokk kitchen set are comfortable for him. He finds a recliner with forward-curved lumbar support painful and doesn't need to recline much. Any suggestions for computer/gaming chairs that might work?

(When you don't have a car, the prospect of 'go out and test out a bunch of chairs in person until you find one that's suitable' isn't really worth it unless you have a damn good idea what you'll be looking at ahead of time.)

Wish I could help. All the chairs I've found that help my back have the lumbar support.

My physical therapist told me that a lot of chronic back pain is caused by our society telling us that an upright posture with thrown out chest and that lumbar curve forward as well is healthy and desirable - so that lumbar support can actually be exacerbating the issue; makes sense that it hurts. A hammock chair might be helpful, (though might be really difficult for gaming) as could postural relearning with a good PT.

And I should add, after so many months of my PT saying "slump more! slouch!" it is still super hard to do so. The 'sit bones' in my butt don't have much padding, so for me to be comfortable sitting the way he wants, with my tailbone tucked, I need a cushion under my butt.
